MY OVER 40 WISHLIST.

40…and fabulous.

For some reason, when you hit 40, you finally permit yourself to be selfish. For a lot of you, you spent most of your 20s and 30s raising children or being married, giving your all to everyone else but yourself.

But now you finally feel you deserve it.

For those of you who do not have children or a spouse to care for, you still have every reason to be selfish. Don’t apologize for that. Everyone and everything these days is fighting for your attention:

  • Your boss wants to go over the meeting notes

  • Your parents need your help with fixing something at their house

  • Your friend who wants to tell you all about another bad date

  • That client who needs to talk to you really badly

  • Your phone - spewing out notifications 40+ times a day.

So at the end of the day, you end up only giving yourself a teeny-tiny slice of the pie of self-care, and that’s just not good enough. I have multiple tools to help me both wake up and wind down in PEACE and feeling SELF-ADORDED.

In 2025, I finally broke down and purchased the Apple AirPods Max noise-cancelling headphones due to the level of noise living in a new apartment.

I felt I was stuck until my lease is up, so since I was already saving $400/m from the last apartment I rented, I figured a little more than 1 month’s worth of savings was well worth the ability to shut off from the world:

dogs barking, kids playing outside, cars driving by with loud music, freeway noise, or my own child’s gaming sounds…

The more I seem to need to focus and concentrate, the more these nuanced noises seem to float in my direction, making me distracted and frustrated at not being able to get things done.

Noise gets so distracting to me. Most of the time, when I come home, I simply put these on and play meditation music or put on ASMR in the background so I can wind down in peace.

Not too bad when the last pair of ANC headphones I purchased was nearly 10 years ago, so it’s not common for me to drop this level of cash on just any pair of headphones.

After extensive research, I felt the AirPods Max had the best look, feel, noise canceling, and audio quality. Yes, they come at a price, but this is what is expected when you already own multiple Apple products that all feed into the same Apple ecosystem.

One of my favorite forms of self-care is when I clean and take care of my skin. There is nothing that feels better than feeling clean and groomed. It refreshes me and relaxes me at the same time.

When I do my skincare routine, I use The INKEY List Hyaluronic Acid Serum after my own homemade oil cleanser made of half castor oil and the other half of a few other oils: Vitamin E, Jojoba, and Argan oil.

All the links I provided above are organic and less than $10 each. You don’t need a lot of oils starting off, so don’t go ordering huge bottles of oils. Oils can expire and go rancid, so always just start with the smallest organic containers possible.

You will need more castor oil, though, than the other oils you choose to mix in, so keep that in mind.

You can also add a little fragrance oil. Just a few drops can really make your homemade skincare feel luxurious. My absolute favorite fragrance oil is by Barnhouse, and it’s the Green Tea scent on Amazon.

Adding a luxurious fragrance oil makes your skincare smell like a luxuryspa or like one of the boutiquehotels I stayed at in Amsterdam back in 2022.

Unfortunately, they don’t sell this in the 30ml bottle of Green Tea scent anymore, but I can assure you anything from Barnhouse smells AMAZING. I personally want to order the Mermaid & Barrier Reef combo pack, Mountain Meets the Ocean, and Mountain Rain fragrance oils.

Obviously, I love water, haha….I’m a Pisces, so I can’t help myself with these scents.

Now, after I have double-cleansed my face with my homemade castor oil concoction, followed by a foaming facewash…I then depuff my face with a rose quartz Gua Sha tool, also with my own homemade facial oil with some of the previous ingredients I listed above earlier.

You can watch Gua Sha tutorials on YouTube to get an idea of how to use the tool. I love that this one by Jenny Patinkin comes with a pouch. Store your GuaSha tool safely, as I have already broken two of them.

I rotate between several books for various reasons. I always like a good simple, feminine read. What I love about Fiona Ferris’ books is that they are light, easy to read, and they are just a touch of self-improvement without going knee-deep into some complete redesign of your entire life.

100 Ways to Live a Soft Calm Life

Inside 100 Ways to Live a Soft, Calm Life you will learn new ideas to live in a more gentle and relaxing way. Even if you already live a very good life, perhaps you can often forget this because there is simply so much going on, both in your life and your busy mind it seems!

I like to leave one of her books lying around where I can easily grab and read a quick section. It’s hard not to become addicted to whoever illustrates all her books. These beautiful fashion-like interpretations of feminine women really do capture her brand:

to feel chic no matter where you live or what your monetary status is.

Ferris has so many books written that if you own a Kindle, I condemn you to check out this super chic Kindle PaperWhite Reader cover in Khaki Leopard Print that looks similar to a chic notebook. If you need a fancy book holder to keep the paperback book intact or your Kindle, you can check out this genuine leather commuter pouch.

Anytime I’m reading a book, I must have a pen to make notes on the side of the columns.

My favorite pens are the Pilot Frixion pens. I have their multi-color set, highlighers and a few of these 4-color pens.

These pens are made of recycled plastic, and you can purchase refills later. The grip is amazing and actually feels easier to write with.

If you do any planning, budgeting, or accounting, you’ll enjoy the red, blue, and green colors that come in addition to the black ink to visually differentiate between different things written down.

I have been eye-balling this ring, which I will name the Warrior Heart Ring. When I see this, I think of how much of a roller coaster my life has been since the 2020 Pandemic. I feel like this ring would represent everything about who I have had to become from being laid off 3x from mortgage jobs as a single mom: a Warrior who has been through

  • multiple job layoffs

  • ups and downs of being broke

  • Lots of dating woes and heartbreaks

  • while still having love for life.

This is crafted from solid 925 sterling silver and finished with a thick layer of white gold, making it tarnish-free, nickel-free, and gentle on the skin. Designed for both style and versatility, it can be worn on its own or stacked effortlessly with your favorite pieces.

Made with premium materials comparable to high-end brands—but without the inflated price—this ring proves that quality jewelry can still be accessible. Each piece arrives in gift-ready packaging with a heartfelt “Self Love” message card, plus a 30-day, no-questions-asked return policy to make sure you absolutely love it.

Chunky Cable Knit Sweater

This chunky cable knit sweater is soft, cozy, and perfect for fall through early winter, with an oversized fit and stylish balloon sleeves that give it a modern look.

The neutral color is also versatile with black or white too! It’s easy to dress up or down—pair it with jeans, leggings, or boots for a casual-chic vibe anywhere you go.

For care, just hand-wash or use a laundry bag, and be sure to check the size chart before ordering.

I don’t know about you, but even in the summer when it’s 100 degrees outside in Austin, Texas, I can totally throw on a hoodie or a sweater inside my home when the air conditioner is on, since sometimes I can get a little chilly.
